Whitfield Responds to Obama’s Unilateral Immigration Announcement

Jun 30, 2014
Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC –  U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield, (KY-01), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Energy and Power, issued the following statement on the President's immigration announcement today:

“The American people and their Representatives in Congress don’t trust this President to enforce the law as written. He continues to make unilateral decisions that assault the very fiber of America and the Constitution. Unless this President changes his approach to addressing our country’s challenges, the issues surrounding immigration will continue in a downward spiral just as Obamacare has on the heels of the Supreme Court’s Hobby Lobby decision today.”

“Our immigration system is broken, and we must first secure our borders by allocating federal resources there. Our agents on the southern border are stretched thin from the growing influx of undocumented aliens crossing into the United States due to the false hopes created by this President’s own words and actions. President Obama should stop making policy decisions solely at his discretion and should start working with Congress to bring actual immigration reform that the American people desire. Unfortunately, the President won't work with Congress, and has proven he believes he is above the law.”
