Whitfield Responds to President’s Unfair Emissions Deal with China
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Energy and Commerce Committee leaders today responded to President Obama’s announcement that he had struck a deal with Chinese President Xi Jinping to reduce carbon emissions.
House Energy and Power Subcommittee Chairman Ed Whitfield (R-KY) and Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI) stated, “America's pain is truly China's gain - and if the president has his way, Americans will continue to be at a disadvantage for many years to come. The Chinese are promising to double their emissions while the administration is going around Congress to impose drastic new regulations inhibiting our own growth and competitiveness. Just when we are finally getting back on firmer economic footing, thanks in large part to our game-changing energy boom, a lame-duck president is working to stack the deck against American jobs, wage increases, and affordable energy. Our top priority must be jobs and the economy - plain and simple.”
